Classroom Training

Fiber Optics for Traffic Systems

The Fiber Optics for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) course, presented by The Light Brigade is intended to provide a practical understanding of how fiber optics and fiber-optic technology are integrated into modern traffic systems.
Fiber Optics for ITS Level I involves two days of classroom training covering fiber optic theory, installation, splicing, testing and maintenance disciplines, and system design. In addition, the course includes four chapters on video transmission, real-time video, traffic control systems, and next generation systems that are key to the evolution from analog to digital ITS applications. This includes optical multiplexing (WDM, CWDM), bi-directional transmission, and bandwidth considerations for those using or considering multimode fibers.
Fiber Optics for ITS Level II involves two additional days of hands-on training on fiber optic splicing, cable preparation, OTDR operation, optical loss testing, and system design. Level I certification is required in order to be eligible for Level II certification.

The fee for the course is $735 for level I, $830 for level II, and $125 for certification (per level).

Clean Air at Port Facilities

Many ports are becoming increasingly sensitive to the environmental impacts their operations have on the surrounding community....

Many ports are becoming increasingly sensitive to the environmental impacts their operations have on the surrounding community. Because ports serve large volumes of freight vehicles, including trucks, and because vehicular movements at ports often involve significant idling, starting and stopping, and low speed travel, ports are often high particulate emissions locations. To address the issue, some ports, especially major west coast ports, have or are in the process of initiating clean air programs aimed at reducing port-related emissions through requiring the use of cleaner vehicles, cleaner fuels, or alternative energy sources. Find out more information about the actions ports are taking to promote cleaner operations through reducing particulate emissions.
